Cytomel – How to use Cytomel for Weight Loss

How to use Cytomel/T3 to Lose Weight

Cytomel is a thyroid hormone whose chemical name is liothyronine sodium and represents a synthetic form of the T3 (triiodothyronine) thyroid hormone. Cytomel is normally prescribed to treat hypothyroidism, which is a thyroid hormone deficiency. This deficiency occurs when the thyroid slows its production of hormones needed for the body’s metabolism and energy. In fact, cytomel is essentially the same thing as T3, the only difference actually being that cytomel is the synthetic form of T3, which is taken orally, while T3 is naturally produced by the human body.

Is Cytomel a Thyroid Hormone?

The medical science has to date not quite understood completely the actual mechanisms by which the thyroid hormones exert their actions. We do know already that these hormones favor oxygen consumption by most tissues in the human body and increase the basal metabolic rate – so they have a strong influence on every organ in our body and also play a great role in the development of the central nervous system.

The thyroid gland elaborates iodine and at the end of this process the iodine becomes the thyroid hormones T4 (thyroxine) and T3. It is quite interesting to note that every single cell in our organism regulates its own metabolism by depending on the above stated hormones. This is where supplementing cytomel comes into action with regards to weight loss.

The pituitary gland regulates the thyroid gland – just as the majority of the hormones – and it provides secretion of TSH (the thyroid stimulating hormone) when it detects that the body has an insufficient level of thyroid hormones. The secretion of the TSH in turn stimulates the thyroid glands to increase their production of T4 and T3.

The use of Oral Cytomel

Cytomel  is prescribed for treating those patients who show some sort of allergic reaction to desiccated thyroid or thyroid extract derived from pork or beef , and in its oral form (like all thyroid hormone compounds), is indicated for treating the following cases:

It is indicated to replace, or become a supplemental therapy, in those patients that are affected by hypothyroidism.
It is indicated in order to treat (or prevent) several types of goiters.

The Side Effects of Cytomel: Is T3 Safe?

Adverse reactions to the administration of cytomel are quite rare.

However, the most common side effects arising from the supplementation of cytomel include, but are not limited to:

  • Hair loss (this usually stops after 2-3 months that the product has been discontinued)
  • Headaches
  • Diarrhea
  • Heart palpitations and / or an increased heartbeat rate
  • Increased body temperature
  • Hot flashes
  • Weight loss (which is the most common) or weight gain (much less common)
  • Anxiety

These are the most usual negative side effects when you start a cycle or when you increase the dosage of cytomel.

A Review of Cytomels Benefits

It is without a doubt that cytomel entails definitely several positive side effects and benefits, which include, although not being limited to the following:

  • Significant weight loss
  • An increased level of physical energy
  • Improved waking/sleeping cycle
  • A decrease in hair loss
  • A significant improvement of the individual’s memory and cognitive processes

It has been proven that when we follow a diet consistently, at some point inevitably our organism starts slowly decreasing its endogenous production of the thyroid hormone and puts itself in a sort of ‘survival status’. This phenomenon is not at all surprising and should instead be regarded as quite normal – especially if we look at our genetic history – recalling how our ancestors from prehistoric ages had to deal almost on a daily basis with very low nutritional intakes, and we examine how the evolutionary process down regulates the production of thyroid hormones as a defense mechanism from low nutrition and starvation.

The dieting process is exactly the phase where a supplementation with oral cytomel will allow our organism to avoid decreasing amounts of thyroid hormones by keeping their levels in a normal state, thus compensating from the prolonged lower calorie intake which we subject ourselves to.

On top of the previously said administration of cytomel, which aims to keep up with a normal compensative production of thyroid hormones, there is also another way of supplementing cytomel. This way is based simply on administering cytomel at higher dosages than those normally needed and looks into giving each user a greater base line metabolic rate.

So, cytomel will allow you to lose body weight just by increasing basically your body’s metabolic rate. This will occur because cytomel will make you effectively burn more calories each day, even when you are sleeping. Should the user have a thyroid that is somewhat underactively functioning, cytomel’s administration will determine a rather rapid body weight loss, especially if one is following a proper exercise program and an adequate diet plan.

Cytomel Dosage and Cycles for Males

As with any other chemical substance in our arsenal of weapons for the most diverse goals, thyroid hormones like cytomel can be used in several ways with regards to the duration of their administration cycles, both for cutting purposes and for bulking purposes. There are indeed some users that prefer implementing it ay very high dosages since the start of their cycle, and then diminish those dosages slowly, in order to lose as much body weight as possible in the shortest period of time possible – but such a practice tends inevitably to burn both lean muscle mass and fat, even under an AAS cycle.

On the other side, there are users who instead use a constant lower dosage for the entire duration of their cycle, without increasing nor decreasing the initial dosage.  This is a practice that is not advisable because the metabolism will tend to slow down once thyroid is suppressed.

Then we have the so-called ‘pyramid-like dosage’, which after the initial low dosage requires a slow but steady increase of the dosage, which at a certain point is slowly decreased – this system has been indeed shown to be the most effective and safe for the general user.

With reference now to the actual dosages of cytomel, it must be said since the start that there is no such thing as a standard dosage that is good for all users. Thyroid hormones are in fact very subjective. You will find many different protocols online of the above stated pyramid-like type, ready for being used, which are however all not advisable for the reasons expressed before. A good method is instead to keep your body temperature under control, checking its value in the first place when you are not exercising, and then to register the relevant changes according to the dosages implemented. With this method you will understand your ideal dosage and how to vary it.

Under normal conditions, the human body will produce approximately 94 mcg to 110 mcg (micrograms) of T4 per day, and from 10 mcg to 25 mcg of T3 per day. Those who are willing to ‘play it safe’ with the implementation of this item will usually implement a dosage of about 10mcg to 20 mcg of T3 within their program of supplementation for weight loss purposes. This will help to make sure that levels of thyroid hormone are quite similar to those specific levels before undergoing a diet.

On the other hand, there is also a more potent way to implement cytomel, and this rather aggressive approach will more likely benefit those male athletes who can boast an already well built physique – such as weightlifters, bodybuilders and athletes who have a proven history of intensive training. Such users will implement the said 10mcg to 20 mcg dosage of T3, yet this dosage will be implemented not only once per day, but from 2 times to even 5 times per day. However, this is a dosage that should be increased slowly over time, in at least a period of several weeks, and it should reach a maximum dosage of not more than 100 mcg per day.

Cytomel Dosage and Cycles for Females

It has to be said that in principle, female users react to the implementation of cytomel much the way that male users do. But female users supplement cytomel at rather lower dosages than those of the average male users simply because the average female user has lower body weight and less quantity of lean body mass than male users generally.
